Meet Sunny Dhingra, DDS, Dip. Ortho, FRCD(C)
As an orthodontist, I am delighted to be part of a profession that can make such a positive impact on people’s lives. Not only do I get to create a transformation, physically and personally, but I get to interact with wonderful people and their families. Making personal connections, and seeing each person grow with us, is deeply satisfying – almost as wonderful as the joy on patients’ faces with their new smiles!
Growing up in Nanaimo, British Columbia, I always knew I wanted to work in the healthcare field. I was impressed by my brother and sister’s orthodontist when they had treatment as teens, especially seeing how treatment left both the doctor and the patient feeling good about what they had done. As an adult, I underwent orthodontic treatment myself, and appreciate the importance of providing both a positive experience and healthy, aesthetic results!
I attended Howard University, in Washington, DC, where I received my Doctorate of Dental Surgery. That was followed by a one-year General Practice Residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital and then my Orthodontic Specialty Certificate at Montefiore Medical Center in New York. I have practiced orthodontics for over ten years.
Ongoing continuing education is crucial as it allows me to stay on the leading-edge and continue growing my knowledge and skills. I am dedicated to a comprehensive approach to orthodontics, and understanding all facets of facial development allows me to treat from a holistic standpoint. I am a member of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, regularly participate in online orthodontic study groups, and lecture to local dentists and dental hygiene groups.
If I’m not in the office, I’m usually found with family. My wife Stacy and I met in dental school. We have a boy and a girl, who are twins, and a long-haired Chihuahua named Cornet. I coach my son’s soccer team, and like to play basketball, golf, and run. I also love to travel and try new restaurants: if you have any suggestions, let me know!
