The first visit will include a private meeting with the orthodontist, where he will conduct a thorough, pain-free exam of your teeth and face. Please reserve at least 45-60 minutes for this complimentary consultation. In easy to understand terms, he will describe your unique case and a treatment plan will be prescribed. The orthodontist will explain the functions and benefits of each stage of the process.
All of your questions concerning orthodontics will be answered at this appointment. Questions about insurance and financial arrangements will also be addressed at this time.
Then, the terms of payment will be discussed. A flexible and interest-free payment plan can be specially designed to meet your individual needs. Some treatment may covered by orthodontic insurance. Please check to see if you have any insurance benefits so we can assist with you to ensure that you receive the maximum benefit from your policy. If you do not have any insurance benefits, do not worry! We have very flexible interest-free plans and orthodontic treatment qualifies for an income tax health credit.
When you are satisfied and comfortable with both the proposed treatment plan and your financial arrangement, the decision to proceed with treatment can be made right there in the office. If so, X-rays and molds of your teeth are taken immediately following the consultation, saving you from having to make another appointment. If you prefer, a separate visit can be made to take the X-rays and molds. Then we can start your treatment.
Your orthodontist is always in close communication with your regular dentist, and remember it is important to see your dentist at least every six months.
Regular Appointments
The appointment when your initial appliances (braces, retainers, etc.) are placed usually takes from one to two hours. After that, you will see us at 6-12 weeks intervals for an adjustment, which usually takes 45 minutes. After the initial place of the braces or retainers you will have some discomfort for 3-7 days and for about one day after each adjustment appointment.
Retainers
Once your orthodontic treatment is complete you will be given retainers to maintain your beautiful smile. During this retention phase you will still be monitored by the orthodontist, but at less frequent intervals.
