Simple rules to successful orthodontic treatment, from Drs. Eckler and Black

April 2nd, 2012

There are so many rumors out there about what’s good for your teeth, what’s bad for your teeth, what will make your teeth crooked, what will discolor your teeth, and so on. Your Orthodontic Treatment with Drs. Eckler & Black will progress quickly if you follow these simple rules!

• You may want to stick to a soft diet for a few days after your braces are placed.
• Brush your teeth at least 3 times per day
• Visit your dentist regularly to have your teeth cleaned and checked for cavities
• Keep all of your scheduled appointments. Limit the number of breakages. Missing visits and excessive breakages will prolong your treatment.
• Call the office if a wire or bracket is broken or causing discomfort.
• Avoid sticky, chewy, hard foods and any foods that are high in sugar.
• Avoid hard pizza crust, nuts, hard popcorn kernels, caramels, gummy bears, gum and toffee.
• Cut up apples and carrots into bite size pieces, remove meat from chicken wings and ribs and remove corn from the cob.
• Chewing on pencils or ice cubes can cause your braces to break.

Am I Too Old for Braces? From Drs. Eckler and Black

March 26th, 2012

Orthodontic treatment for adults is becoming more and more common. In fact, the number of adults getting braces has actually climbed 24 percent since 1996! More adults than ever are realizing that orthodontic treatment is not just for kids, and can help improve the aesthetics and health of a smile of any age! In a society where appearance matters and can help make the difference between getting a job or a promotion, adults are choosing wisely to invest in orthodontic treatment.

Some of the most common reasons our adult patients come to us considering orthodontic treatment include:

· Teeth that are crowded or spaced apart, sometimes as a result of tooth decay or gum disease

· Pain or pressure from crooked teeth or a misaligned jaw

· A bad bite or malocclusion, causing teeth to fit together incorrectly

Most of all though, adult patients come to our office seeking a healthier mouth and a more confident smile! Orthodontic treatment at our office can be successful at any age, and adults especially can appreciate the benefits of a beautiful smile.

As an adult patient, we recognize that you have different needs than our younger patients, and we will work with you to ensure you receive the most appropriate treatment and that your needs are met with understanding and respect from us.

If you’ve been thinking about getting that perfect smile, we would love to have you visit for a consultation. We understand you have a busy schedule, and will work with you to find a time that is convenient for you. Please visit our website or give our office a call to schedule your appointment today!

What makes our community unique?

March 20th, 2012

Recently, Drs. Eckler and Black were asked, “What makes your community unique?”

The answer is, A LOT!

Just check out these fun facts about Brampton!

Brampton is the third-largest city in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) of Ontario, Canada.

Brampton’s population makes it the ninth largest city in Canada.

With the median age at 33.7, it is the youngest community in the GTA.

Brampton has the largest concentration of South Asians in Canada, making up 36% of Brampton’s population.

Brampton was incorporated as a village in 1853, taking its name from the rural town of Brampton, in Cumbria, England.

Brampton was once known as The Flower Town of Canada.

DID YOU KNOW? The name “Bramalea” was created by the farmer William Sheard, who combined “BRAM” from Brampton, “MAL” from Malton and “LEA”, an Old English word meaning meadow or grassland.

Created as an innovative “new town”, Bramalea was one of Canada’s first satellite communities.

Some of the attractions include:

• Gage Park
• Artway Gallery
• Camp Naivelt
• Chinguacousy Park-Greenhouse and gardens
• Claireville Conservation Area
• Flower City Theatre Festival
• Formula Kartways
• Great War Flying Museum
• Heart Lake Conservation Area
